Rover Leader · Sea Scout · Stage & Languages

Dawn Ledbitter

Born-and-bred Gautenger with a Sea Scout's heart, a performing-arts degree, a flame-red mane, and a knack for making a whole room happier just by walking into it. She leads a province of Rovers and helps the world learn to talk to itself.

◈ from a Pretoria Sea Scout troop to a Jamboree in Korea ◈

Some people are impressive. Dawn is impressive and the person you actually want in the room, the one who fans the flames in everyone's heart: she leads Gauteng's Rovers, holds Scouting's highest young-adult award, trained on the stage, sails and paddles and climbs, helps companies learn each other's languages for a living, and is, by expert testimony, the most joy-giving human on the planet. This corner of the internet exists to say so.

The Receipts

A short, entirely admiring dossier.

🧭

She Leads a Province of Rovers

Dawn is the Regional Team Coordinator for the Rover Programme on the Gauteng Region Management Team, steering young-adult Scouting across an entire province. An adult leader since 2013, in the Rover branch since 2015.

🏅

BP Rover Award

She holds the Baden-Powell Rover Award, the highest honour a Rover can earn in South Africa, awarded in 2020 through her crew, the 45th Prometheus in Gauteng (certificate 2020/002). Very few Rovers ever finish it.

Sea Scout at Heart

She hailed from a Sea Scout troop in Pretoria, and it stuck: her happy place is anything on the water, sailing, paddling, rowing and swimming. Land-locked Gauteng never stood a chance of keeping her dry.

🌏

World Scout Jamboree, Korea

She was there for the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea, one of the largest gatherings of young people on Earth. Just the latest stamp for someone whose Scouting has always pointed outward.

Helps the World Learn to Talk

A Performing-Arts Degree

She earned a BA (Hons) in Performing Arts from the University of Pretoria, four years of drama, movement, dance and stagecraft, then interned with the national Department of Arts and Culture. The stage presence is fully accredited.

Says Yes to the Adventure

When she isn't on the water she's rock climbing and kloofing, and she's tackled the Cederberg. She's the person who tutors the hard courses, then goes and does the scary thing for fun on the weekend.

🎓

The Tutor Everyone Remembers

She trains the next generation of leaders, running Adult Leader Training and tutoring courses like the demanding Oars Charge. It's how she met her partner Callan in 2016: she was the tutor, he was the one paying attention.

Kathleen's Crewmate

Small world, big hearts: Dawn shares the 45th Prometheus crew with a certain Kathleen Godfrey, and the two of them earned the BP Rover Award in the very same year (2020). Good people cluster.
